A Packed Summer
It is now September and it is some weeks since I wrote a blog. My only excuse is that the summer has been packed full of activity and, in particular, I have enjoyed meeting so many supporters at events over the past few weeks. Thank you to the many thousands of you who managed to attend one of the Open Days at our Rehoming Centres which I hope you enjoyed as much as we do.
I receive a number of moving mails from supporters which I love to read. A recent posting on Doggy Snaps titled, “Dogs Trust made my little girls dreams come true” really touched my heart;
The posting is about a 12 year old little girl who suffers from mental disabilities but the one thing that she is passionate about is animals, particularly her dogs. Without fail she feeds them, walks them, baths them and looks after them with so much love and attention. This little girl’s mother, Tina, decided to treat her to a doggy day out at our Salisbury Open Day and entered the dogs in the show. She explained to her that she should not expect to win but that their participation was just for fun and to help Dogs Trust. They ended up coming home with 2 rosettes! Tina wrote:
“I have never seen her so happy, I was so proud of her…when I checked on her when she went to bed I found the rosettes on her pillow…thanks you so much Dogs Trust for such a lovely day and for making a little girl feel so special about herself”
What a fantastic story and it sums up just how much joy that dogs can bring to people’s lives. I never tire of reading about people’s experiences with them, so please do keep these stories coming.
