There is a real misconception that animal charities in the UK never work together. The truth is that all the major welfare charities co-operate, to greater or lesser extent, for the benefit of animals. Only in the area of fundraising is there any real “competition” but even this is good-natured rivalry.

At Dogs Trust, we tend to use the term “fellow players” as opposed to “competitors”.  We may not agree with all their policies – or vice versa – but we feel that we are all on the same side.

A bad start to the year

One dog story has rightly dominated the headlines over the last few weeks – the tragic death of a little girl following an attack by a family member’s dog. My heartfelt condolences go to Ellie’s parents for their terrible loss.

This incident has once again opened the debate on the Dangerous Dogs Act. The position of Dogs Trust on this matter is clear – it is the deed and not the breed which should be punished. And we also want to see more emphasis on the punishment of those humans who encourage their dogs to be aggressive or who breed dogs for fighting.
